"This photo was taken during the opening ceremony of 2013 Singapore National Day. I used a Canon 5D Mark 3 with a 24-70mm F2.8 lens. Originally, I wanted to use my 70-200mm with 2x extender to get a close up shot of the planes. As we were waiting for the planes, I switched first to 24-70mm lens to get some cityscapes shots. Then all of a sudden everybody was pointing to the sky as the planes were already approaching. Unable to switch lenses, I continued shooting with whatever lens was attached to my camera. Fortunately the 24-70mm lens fits the view. The scene was so fast that I was able to take only a few shots before the planes and the formation disappeared. I'm always inspired to take photos that are random, challenging and that requires technical skills. I'm drawn to photojournalism or street photography or photos you capture during events like this one. The event happened late in the afternoon or during golden hours. I used aperture priority at F5.6, and as the sky will be the key point of the picture, I added +0.7 exposure compensation to get some details of the clouds. Set at ISO 800, the camera measured the shutter at 1/640. As always, I shot in Raw and processed by LR5. Believe it or not, no cropping or straightening was made on this photo, I feel lucky that the composition was perfect." - Jose

A special thanks to Martin for his collaboration as a guest judge in the Butterflies Photo Contest and for sharing the following photography tips:
Know your tools and be prepared: There's nothing that will cost you your shots more than fumbling with your gear and settings as an amazing moment unfolds. Ensure that you understand all of the technology that you are using, and have your exposure all set up ready, so when the moment you've been waiting for arrives, you are ready to nail the shot.
Be patient and persistent: Don't expect it to all come together once you are ready. Some photographs take hours, days, or sometimes years to achieve. Make photos as you work a subject, to feed your soul, and keep you engaged, but stick with it, until you get your dream shot. Don't stop there though. If you are passionate about your subject, there's always something better waiting for you.
Learn the rules, then break them: Photography is both a technical and an artistic pursuit. Once can't exist without the other. Learn the technical and compositional rules until they are second nature, but remember that rules are only guidelines. Don't let them become a straight-jacket holding back your art. Learn how to break the rules, create tension, and make images that make you happy
